In 2012, Citrus Park became the home of famous chimpanzee J. Fred Muggs, who lives in the care of Gerald Preis, son of trainer Carmine “Bud” Mennella. In 2016, residents of Citrus Park have claimed to see an occasional herd of goats roaming aimlessly. People are urged to call animal control when they see the goats near busy roadways. Visitors and residents alike enjoy Big Cat Rescue, a non-profit sanctuary for large cats that is open to the public and located in Citrus Park. Additionally, Westfield Citrus Park is a major shopping center opened in 1999.
